A Mountain of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays provide a plethora of activities much better than checking the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on holiday treats, and employing meditation skills to refrain from snapping at family members. I hope you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling news items surfaced during the holidays, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Without a doubt the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt further production. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a good sign. However, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, at this point, they must be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for a while, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio known for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not been disclosed yet.
