Eric Adams to Endorse Andrew Cuomo in NYC Mayoral Race

NYC's current mayor Mayor Adams has announced his plan to support former Governor Cuomo in the upcoming mayoral race, despite months of disagreements between the two Democratic figures.

A Surprising Reversal After Recent Criticism

Just last month, the mayor had lashed out at the former governor, labeling him a ā€œsnake and a liarā€ and alleging of having ā€œa history of marginalizing Black political contenders.ā€ Yet, in a recent statement, Adams changed his position, announcing he now plans to appear with Cuomo in neighborhoods where he holds significant backing.

ā€œIt's essential to energize the communities of color that have experienced urban displacement on how vital this election is,ā€ the mayor commented.

The mayor further explained, ā€œThey have watched their rents increase due to neighborhood changes and they have been overlooked in those areas, and I’m going to go to those neighborhoods and speak one on one with organizers and organizations and I’m going to walk with the governor in those areas and get them motivated.ā€

Race Dynamics and Recent Events

The election battle has so far been dominated by the competition between the former governor and progressive candidate his main rival, whose growing support has attracted attention worldwide and symbolized hopes for a revitalized progressive wing of the Democrats.

During a recent mayoral debate, both the democratic socialist and GOP candidate his conservative opponent announced they would reject the mayor's support if offered.

Months ago, Adams had begun his re-election campaign as an unaffiliated candidate after being indicted on legal accusations which were later dropped in exchange for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across the city.

During a unrelated press conference on Thursday, the mayor answered journalists inquiring into the endorsement plan by saying, ā€œI'm meeting Andrew later today.ā€

The announcement followed a day after the two politicians were spotted sitting courtside together at the New York Knicks’ season opener at the famous arena, which took place right after a heated mayoral debate.
