Australian rugby league's administration has announced that players who enter the “breakaway” R360 league will be prohibited for 10 seasons.

The proposed competition, set to start in 2026, is seeking to lure athletes from both codes with hefty contracts and a slimmed-down game calendar.

Top NRL athletes have allegedly been contacted by R360, which will include multiple men's sides and four women's sides based in major cities globally.

Samoa's the player, who plays for New Zealand Warriors in the competition, has said he has had discussions with R360.

Papenhuyzen, Zac Lomax, Haas and Jye Gray are also reported to be considering joining R360.

Eight major union teams, including Australia, earlier declared a ban on R360 recruits playing global fixtures.

“We heard our franchises and we've acted decisively,” said the league's chairman Peter V'Landys.

“Unfortunately, there will always be organizations that try to exploit our sport for monetary profit.

“They avoid funding in development systems or the development of athletes. They only leverage the efforts of existing bodies, jeopardizing careers of economic hardship while benefiting financially.

“In truth, they represent, imitating the sport.”

R360 is established by ex-England star Mike Tindall and funded by private investors.

Subsequent to the prospective union sanctions were announced earlier, it stated: “We seek to cooperate together as integrated into the global rugby calendar.

“The competition is arranged with tailored timetables for both genders and the organization will release all players for test matches, as written into their deals.”

R360 will seek approval for its plans from World Rugby, union's administrative organization, at its board session in the coming year.
