🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Traversal Techniques Become Widely Accessible During This Update Respawn Entertainment has an exciting surprise in store for the popular battle royale gamers, arriving just in time for festive season. Fans of this game's super-slick traversal can rejoice to discover that a new movement mechanic is being implemented when the Amped season goes live on Nov. 4. Unveiling The Mantle Boost Named "Momentum Boosting" by the developers, this feature provides gamers a surge of propulsion when climbing over ledges and walls. According to key developer the design lead, Mantle Boosting was previously been a feature of Apex Legends for quite a while, often called as "ledge boosting." However it's no easy feat for casual gamers, and is mainly used by competitive players in Ranked Mode or tournaments. This season, the team is making it easier for everyone to successfully perform these tricky movement boosts. "This technique have been in the game for a while, but the movement isn't easy to pull off and gamers might not realize it [is in the game] without outside knowledge," Canavese states. "Now including a Mantle Boost indicator so players can clearly identify when and how to trigger the high-octane movement ability, opening up the feature and adding new ways to compete for a much wider base." Why Make It Accessible What's the reason for making a previously obscure movement quirk accessible to all players? Principal designer the development lead explains developers aims for gamers to experience empowerment — even those who are new. "[The playerbase] performs advanced techniques like super-glides and tap-strafing, and we examined at our competition, observed what the community execute, and we wondered, 'What if we extend these capabilities to more players?'" the designer clarifies. "Since currently, some of these advanced [movement] mechanics are kind of janky to access — you need to remap your keybinds and execute within precise timings. So we said, 'How about we make a more official implementation?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Mobility is largely the name of the game in this season, with Legends the gravity mage, the defensive specialist, and the aerial combatant all getting enhancements to help keep them mobile. Recovery time on Horizon's Gravity Lift is shorter, and this skill will propel players into the air much quicker than it used to. Her defensive walls feature a roof and capability to grant speed boosts to those nearby. However it's the high-flying this Legend who's getting significant improvements this season, with multiple tweaks applied to enhance her as more potent, faster, and deadlier. "I think many agree that Valkyrie's time is here," says character developer the designer. "There's no doubt she was dominant in the past, but due to the addition of new Legends, mobility perks, and redeployment tools, it seemed like she's not very relevant in current the game. It was a really great opportunity for the team to revisit a bunch of aspects [of her kit] and essentially restore her to former prominence." Valkyrie's Upgrades To reclaim her competitive status in the game's meta, Holstead notes the team assessed each of her abilities and introduced significant modifications. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, increasing velocity while airborne, and the jets themselves now recharge much quicker, allowing her to remain longer aloft. She can no longer take damage from her ultimate ability, which was enhanced to tag enemies who take damage from the missiles. Her squad redeploy skill — which lifts teammates into the air for redeployment or escape — requires reduced delay to activate. She's also getting recently added perk choices that players can select to reduce fuel consumption, expand the spread of her Missile Swarm, or accelerate her Skyward Dive activation. "Valkyrie's equipment now delivers on the pilot experience," he says. Olympus Improvements Additionally, the only floating arena, Olympus, is getting a mobility-focused overhaul, with major changes that expands bottlenecks and renders claiming the high ground a bit less daunting. The developers state the game Season 27 is all about giving players the resources they need to keep up with matches. "Really, we examined Apex's core identity as a fast-paced FPS," explains principal designer the lead. The battle royale the Amped season launches November 4th at the specified times.
