The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
