The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.” Now that Season 1 of the popular series reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus. Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and online debates about Pluribus. The creator is striving to avoid both. “The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's on purpose. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.” Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show. “It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by what people are saying.” “Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes. The Big Question: Does the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus? So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… with some caveats. “We've developed some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.” Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup. “My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.” Of course, why mess with the iconic TV endings? “I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
